The Kimmage IT system is wired for broadband offering high speed internet
and email access, and a fully functional computer network is provided
without disruption. The IT infrastructure at Kimmage DSC is both stable and
secure - the operating system runs on a Linux platform which greatly
benefits course participants and staff as viruses, hacking and security are
far easier to control. Each course participant and member of staff has an
individual profile which means they can access their work from any machine
on the network. Course participants have the use of word processing,
spreadsheets, internet access, email and options to request further
applications and technologies. All participants have access to an internal
Moodle application programme, which provides timetabling, course notes, and
general current information on the programme. The Kimmage DSC Library
Catalogue (run using a programme known as 'AccessIT') is also accessible on
the network.
